Thornleigh Zig Zag Railway Walking Tours

About this event

Many Thornleigh residents have no idea a Zig Zag railway once ran beneath their streets.

Now in its fourth year, a popular Hornsby Shire guided walking tour is giving locals and history enthusiasts the chance to uncover that forgotten story.

Join local historian and author of Zig Zag Away, Tim Sowden, on one of four new community walks announced for June and July 2026.

Attendees will trace the original route from Thornleigh Station, winding through local streets towards Zig Zag Creek, past the site of a late 19th century quarry and the long-forgotten township that once housed the people who built the Great Northern Railway. Signs of their work are still visible today, hidden in plain sight.
