25th Biennale of Sydney Family Day with An.Other Collective

About this event

Open House: Leave Your Shoes By the Door is a participatory activation inviting families and visitors to reflect on the home as a site of healing, memory and care. " Rooted in islamic tradition of dhiyafah (hospitality) and Salaturahmi (fostering bonds of kinship and connection) the rituals of home are extended to the public as gestures of reparation and re-connection. The domestic space is entrusted with Amanah; a moral and spiritual responsibility to care for those who enter it. It holds cultural rituals and memories that we embody to nourish our communities and foster a sense of belonging. Our practice as a collective reclaims domesticity and its agency to be the departure point for post-colonial futures of nearness, co-existence and solidarity. Responding to the theme of Rememory, we will be facilitating activations that reflect the customs and memory of home and the value of generosity and care as building blocks for community and belonging. Through our activation, we will discover what alternative forms emerge when rest and reflection are at the forefront.” Family Days at the 25th Biennale of Sydney are a celebration of creativity, colour, and connection! Designed for kids (and kids at heart), these lively days invite families to explore, play, and make art together. Expect hands-on workshops, performances, and activities bursting with energy, music, and laughter, all curated by community-led organisations who bring their unique perspectives and local spirit to the program. Joyous, loud, and full of life, Family Days are your invitation to dive into art, imagination, and shared experiences for all ages. And best of all, entry is free! Presented by Major Partner Arada.
