NAIDOC Week
About this event
National Aboriginal and Islanders Day Observance Committee Week (NAIDOC Week) is celebrated every year in the first full week of July, from Sunday to Sunday.
National NAIDOC Week represents a celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and achievements and is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about local First Nations culture and participate in celebrations of the oldest continuous living cultures on Earth.
In 2026, NAIDOC Week will be celebrated from Sunday 5 – Sunday 12 July.
Fairfield City Council in partnership with the Fairfield Engaging Families of Aboriginal Heritage (FEFAH) working group will host the free NAIDOC Family Fun Day event at Fairfield Showground (443 Smithfield Rd Prairiewood) on Tuesday 7 July 2026, 11am – 3pm.

For five decades, NAIDOC week has celebrated the voice of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities – steady, unapologetic and proud. Each year the NAIDOC theme has called for truth, celebrated culture, honoured resistance and reminded the Nation of who Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are. Fifty Years Deadly marks a milestone. It is a tribute to the people who built the movement, the Elders who stood firm, the organisers who made the space, the artists who turned resistance into expression, and the communities who keep showing up year after year. Fifty years of Deadly is not just a marker, not just of time passed, but of the momentum still building.
The NAIDOC journey began as a movement for recognition and rights, and over the decades, it has grown into a powerful national celebration, a testament to the enduring strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
You can get to know and support your local Aboriginal communities through activities and events held around the country for National NAIDOC Week.
In 2026, National NAIDOC Week will be celebrated Sunday 5 – Sunday 12 July.
IMAGE: Cultural performances and entertainment from First Nations artists have been highlights of previous NAIDOC Family Fun Day events. In 2026, we’ll get to hear from Radical Son, the creative moniker of David Leha. A highly skilled artist, renowned for his magnetic performances, spell-binding vocals and a style that fuses hip hop, soul and a powerful connection to Country and his cultural roots, Radical Son is First Nations, from the Kamilaroi nation of Australia and the South Pacific nation of Tonga.
