NAIDOC Week: Aboriginal Cultural Immersion Workshop (3-15 Years)

About this event

Experience a rich and authentic Aboriginal cultural immersion, guided by highly trained Aboriginal Tutors. This engaging program invites participants to explore Aboriginal history, culture, art, music and storytelling, offering a meaningful and interactive learning experience that is both educational and inspiring.

The workshop begins with an Acknowledgement to Country, followed by a traditional Sweeping Ceremony to honour ancestors and show respect to the land and sea of Country. Participants will then take part in a Culture Talk, learning about local Aboriginal history, significant places, people and events, as well as traditional art forms, materials and symbols used to share stories across generations.

A key highlight is Jurrngkurr, where participants will view and handle a range of handcrafted artefacts and traditional tools. Tutors explain how these objects were made and used in daily life, offering a hands-on connection to culture and tradition.

The experience concludes with Journey Stones, a traditional teaching practice using symbolic stones to reflect on identity and connection to Creation and the Dreaming. Participants learn about traditional ochre, body painting and songlines, before painting their own journey stone using Aboriginal symbols to tell a personal story to take home.
